Mxolisi Siyonzana, Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality will face his first motion of no confidence in his leadership merely 4 months into the job following the 1st November 2021 Local Government Elections (LGE).
This after the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats (AASD) submitted a motion of no confidence via John Mokoena.
Siyonzana who has been the speaker for the municipality since 2016 till the LGE has been under fire from within his party and it remains to be seen if ANC members will support opposition sponsored motion.
In 2018, ANC councillors were accused of voting for Freedom Front Plus motion to oust Olly Mlamleli, former Mayor.
Mlamleli, who assumed office in August 2016, was voted out at a special council meeting through a secret ballot.
It took three attempts to oust Mlamleli and opposition parties finally got their way through a motion of no confidence brought by the Freedom Front Plus.
31 councillors voted for her removal. Twenty-eight were against the vote, while eight others spoiled their ballots.

Mokoena accuses Siyonzana of:
Gross dereliction of duty
Gross incompetence
Gross negligence and conduct inconsistent with his oath of office
Acting in bad faith, dishonesty and in a non-transparent manner
Have acted in not in the best interest of the municipality and compromised the credibility and integrity of the municipality.
As if that’s enough the South African Communist Part in Caleb Motshabi District has called for those alleged to be involved in corrupt activities to be jailed.
“The SACP in the district is convinced there is a crisis of leadership, with poor political, oversight and monitoring of delivering of municipal services, as well as worrying inaction in light of serious reports of corruption and mismanagement of municipal finances.
We demand that those implicated in mismanagement of and acts of corruption be arrested and jailed, and the looting spree of the municipal resources by paralystic wealth accumulation forces be stopped”, reads the statement
Will the ANC save their Mayor?
