Magashule nemises tipped for a top position at Free State Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation

The department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC; Limakatso Mahasa is set to appoint a new Chief of Staff in February.

This comes after Step Up SA News asked questions around her current Chief of Staff, Bongo Nazo who is an employee of DESTEA was seconded to SACR the minute Mahasa became MEC in 2019.

According to a source within the ANC Mahasa chose Tshabalala after the party told her that, she needs a Chief of Staff as Nazo is a permanent employee of DESTEA.

Another source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mahasa snubbed former MEC Dan Kgothule.

“The ANC suggested that former MEC, Dan Kgothule but she opted for Tshabalala.”

He concluded, “Rest assured Kgothule is coming back, and with HOD positions finally advertised he is going to get one position.”

Tshabalala is a former Fezile Dabi leader. In May 2021, he wrote an open letter to the suspended secretary-general of the ANC, Ace Magashule accusing him of embracing white people and apartheid beneficiaries.

A source from Interim Province Commiitte(IPC) confirmed Tshabalala that will be joining SARC but Human Resources cannot process his employment as Nazo is still around.

“Yes Steve will be joining SACR but as long Nazo is in still in that office HR can’t process him.”

Tshabalala’s appointment will hit Library services as Mahasa wants Nazo to be seconded to Library services, a move sources say will hurt Nomabhaso Ramugondo who has been acting for over 5 years.

It remains a mystery why and how Nazo, a social worker by profession moved to DESTEA and seconded to SACR.

He has followed Mahasa from Social Development to DESTEA and Sports Arts, Culture, and Recreation.

According to Public Service Regulations, a person seconded needs to possess a skill or perform a service that no one in the department he is seconded to has and for a period not exceeding 12 months but Nazo has been seconded to SACR since 2019.

Oupa Khoabane, IPC spokesperson said, “I am not aware of that information”

Steve Tshabalala and Dr. Mbulelo Nokwequ, HOD for DESTEA did not respond to our questions.
