Bloemfontein – The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) has confirmed that the official retirement age at the Free State Gambling, Liquor and Tourism Authority (FSGLTA) is 60 years.
This follows the appointment last year of 59-year-old Moferefere Dhlamini as company secretary on a five-year contract.
Dhlamini has since turned 60, which according to the entity’s Human Resources (HR) policy is the stipulated retirement age.
Despite reaching retirement age this year, Dhlamini is expected to continue serving the remainder of his contract, which has four years left.
Prior to his appointment as company secretary, Dhlamini served as a board member of the same entity and previously worked as an office manager for MEC Ketso Makume, who oversees the FSGLTA.
The development comes amid calls by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) for MEC Makume to disband the FSGLTA board and institute a forensic audit into the entity’s affairs.
Responding to queries, AGSA spokesperson Afrika Boso confirmed that the retirement age policy exists but clarified its scope.
“The FSGLTA Human Resources policy indeed indicates that 60 years is the retirement age; however, it is applicable to employees of the entity.”
When presented with evidence that Dhlamini is currently an employee at the age of 60 with four years remaining on his contract, Boso declined to comment further, stating:
“Please note that the timelines of the appointments you are referring to below fall under the financial year we still have to audit for; and as you’d know, our mandate is to comment on matters we have already audited.
So, the relevant auditee/s will be best suited to deal with your latest enquiry.”
