Bloemfontein – The appointment of Nthateng Maoke, former Executive Mayor of Setsoto Local Municipality at COGTA/Human Settlements has raised more hair.
Maoke was declared illegal immigrant by Home Affairs and resigned in December 2019 as Executive Mayor.
At the time, Home Affairs threatened to deport her.
James Mokoena from Democratic Alliance asked Teboho “Sulky” Mokoena, MEC for COGTA and Human Settlements about Maoke’s appointment following our story in May.
DA’s Mokoena asked when and how was Maoke appointed in the Internal Questions Paper and MEC Mokoena said:
“The Department conducted suitability checks before appointing any employee in the Department. The same process was followed when appointing all intervention officers, including Ms Nthateng Maoke.
The suitability checks include among other thing: Citizenship and Qualification.
Mokoena went further to put the illegal immigrant matter to rest.
“Ms has been found to be a South African Citizen and has done her studies in Ficksburg, Free State Province.
Sources with intimate knowledge have confirmed Maoke studied in Ficksburg but she was using Lesotho passport to cross Maputswe border.
We have sent Maoke’s Identity Document number to Home Affairs to verify if it’s legit and asked what how status changed from her being declared “illegal” to a “citizen”.
Sulky is forever hiring thixooooooo if it’s not coordinators it’s intervention offices but there is always controversy.
This is a developing story.
