Bloemfontein – Centlec SOC has recorded over a billion rand in revenue collection in the first quarter although 70% went to Eskom.
Centlec has received unqualified audit opinion with findings for the past five years.
The Mangaung based power utility achieved this despite Free State Provincial Government, municipalities and Free State Development Corporation owing it over a billion.
This feat comes after load reduction and that’s exactly what Odwa Duda, Auditor General of South Africa, Business Unit Manager said in July 2022, that loadshedding was impacting Centlec’s revenue collection.

At the time Malefane Sekoboto, Chief Executive Officer of Centlec agreed with Dudwa.

On the 5 February 2025, Centlec disconnected power in government buildings due to debt.
Sekoboto explained in detail how this exercise helps them.

Apart from revenue collection and unqualified audit, Centlec achieved service delivery targets of electrifying 1512 house holds in the first phase and current electrifying 1180 units in N8 Park Botshabelo.
This echoes well with what Tsakani Maluleke, Auditor General, said that clean audits without services mean nothing.
Centlec has also afforded 56 interns an opportunity to learn the ropes in the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program in partnership with CUT.
In addition, 30 employees completed the higher certificate for renewable energy from CUT and entity received grant funding from EWSETA for another 20 employees starting early 2026.
Centlec is currently running a campaign against cable theft.
