Agriculture MEC avails funding for black farmers

Bloemfontein – The Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Elzabe Rockman has officially opened applications for 100% funding. 

Rockman who is the most experienced among the current executive having served as Executive Authority, Director General and Member of Legislature has called black farmers to apply for funding. 

According to Rockman, the Department will provide one hundred percent (100%) funding or support for agribusiness planning and marketing. Support areas include:

• Farm business plan development.

• Agro-processing business plan development.

• Linking farmers to markets.

• Marketing information and skills development training.

The Department has deliberately prioritised commodities such as livestock (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs), grains and legumes (maize, sunflower, soya beans), fodder, vegetables, fruits, poultry (broilers and layers), and niche commodities. 

These sectors were selected for their potential to revive provincial economies, strengthen food sovereignty, and create sustainable jobs.

Applicants have till Thursday, 9 October 2025. Forms can be collected and submitted at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development District and Ward Offices in the Free State, and can also be downloaded on the departmental social media platform (Facebook). 

Please note that no electronical submission will be accepted.

All applicants are strongly advised to consult their local extension office before submitting their applications.

Black classification include deserving Coloureds, Indians and Chinese aged 18 and above.
