Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Free State Development Corporation (FDC) has sent letters to its defaulting tenants over outstanding rent threatening to shut their properties as it plans to recover R 1.1 billion.

FDC has given its debtors three months to arrange a payment plan of the red ants will be unleashed.

These revelations were made by Ketso Makume, MEC for Treasury and Economic Development in response to a question from David van Vuuren from Democratic Alliance

van Vuuren asked:

What is the total amount of outstanding debt owed to the FDC due to defaulting clients?

In response Makume said:

“The total amount of outstanding debts owed to FDC by defaulting clients is-
Outstanding rent: R669 440 488.64
Outstanding loan: R345 714 018.47”

van Vuuren asked Makume how much of the outstanding rent and loan has been recovered and Makume said:
Recovered rent: R128 545 540.77
Recovered Loan: R4 223 517.46

Makume said if the clients fail to pay their outstanding rent they will be forced to close the buildings, but we can tell you for free this is not going to happen as most of the beneficiaries have links with ANC, in fact Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae, Free State Premier want to donate some buildings to SMMEs, more like EPWP that went to Model C school.

If anyone believes this process of donating buildings will be fair, open and transparent then julle weet nie wat ons weet, we have hyenas looking after goats in this government.

Last month MEC Makume’s office manager was appointed company secretary of FSGLTA, he was hired by Makume as his office manager when he became MEC for COGTA & Human Settlements and they moved together to DESTEA, a year later he moves to a company that falls under Makume’s portfolio.

In a month of so, Valentine Sekhoane will be appointed as Chief Director: Corporate Services at DESTEA, currently he is Makume’s special advisor at salary level 14.
