Free State Premier plans to capture media ahead of local government elections

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) will on Thursday host community media summit in what looks like a media capture.

The summit will be held at the famous Imvelo Lodge over two days and it is “per invite”.

Imvelo Lodge was the venue of the chaotic Provincial Conference in 2023 and to date, it’s owners have received tenders over R600 million from Community, Roads, and Transport where the current Premier was MEC.

According to the invitation shared with publication, Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae, Free State Premier is trying to galvanise community media for the upcoming local government elections for the ruling party.

“As we prepare ourselves for the upcoming local government elections in 2026 Free State Provincial Government has earmarked this sector to be our mobilising tool as we take government and it’s services  to the  people.”

According to the two day program of per invitation summit:

– Steve Tshabalala, Head of Department at Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will touch on government details-Aside Support;

– Ernest Mohlahlo, head of Department at Provincial Treasury will touch on Central Supplier Data and Budgetary Considerations made by Provincial Government in the allocation of advertising spend.

The above are hanging fruits for community media as government only funds those running it’s Public Relations.

Sounds like Pretenders is setting up a war room for ANC using government resources.

Local Government Elections are contested by political parties not government and a huge chunk of the R45 billion budget for departments will be given to service providers who are likely to fund ANC campaign same as Patrick “The Butcher” Phuti did last year, same way Reggie Madie of Moroka JV Mbunana Building paid R400 000 into the back account of Victoria De Beer’s husband.

The costs of the summit are yet to be availed and how service providers were secured.

As things stand, almost everything is dysfunctional in Free State. Department of Education can’t even pay medical aid for employee.

Dr Mafole Mokalobe, acting Director General of Free State Provincial Government did not respond to our questions.

In other news, the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting held on Monday showed the fake “renewal and unity” has evaporated as factional battles took centre stage.
