Academic fraud and misappropriation of funds lead to closure of Agri College

Glen – The closure of Glen, College of Agriculture College (GCA) on Thursday, a week earlier due to students protest, has revealed more than what students normally protest for, bursaries.

GCA, situated just outside Bloemfontein erupted in chaos on Thursday with police called to defuse the situation.

At the heart of the protest is the dilapidating infrastructure that despite a R10 million submission put aside in 2021 to fix, among others:
Hostel,
Egg grader,
Kaizer Flour miller,
20 Laptops,
Pig grower unit,
Milk Pasteuriser,
Lab equipment

According to insiders at the college the money was diverted to outdoor gymnasium and paving instead of prioritising infrastructure.

WATCH:

An affidavit leaked to this publication mentions at 40 students who graduated without practicals.

The college states it has 94% pass rate.

A student who spoke on condition of anonymity said the closure will help with fixing water and other basics.

“The closure will afford the management an opportunity to fix what can be fixed within law while trying to find permanent solution. “

Modiehi Moeng, spokesperson fir Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said the college management and students reached a consensus on the way forward.
