Bloemfontein – The tension between Greg Nthatisi, Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro and Sabelo Pitso, African National Congress( ANC) Regional Secretary has reached a boiling point.
This, after Pitso wrote a letter to Nthatisi, among others, accusing him of defying the ruling party.
A letter in possession of this publication written by Pitso on the 14 February 2025, highlights few points that aggrieved the ruling ANC.
According to Pitso, Nthatisi hastened to table the Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN) report.
“I refer to the ANC Caucus meeting bearing the subject matter herein above mentioned dated the 30 January 2025, in which the Caucus meeting agreed that only Items of compliance will be discussed in the council.
Notwithstanding this collective decision you decided and hasten to table the IPTN Item before the Council.”
Pitso accuses Nthatisi of lacking discipline.
“However, your insistence to further the resolution of the Council meeting in a matter which the Political Party which deployed you to a position of the Executive Mayor cautioned you from tabling the same agenda, is but another act of your outright resistance thus effectively bothering on the lack of discipline by yourself. Previously you erratically changed your MMCs without even presenting any report to the ANC on their performance.
Furthermore, employment of people in the Municipality without any knowledge of the ANC. Finally, you conduct your own programmes or summits for without the knowledge or involvement of the ANC Region.”
However, two Regional Executive Committee (REC) members who spoke on condition of anonymity said the REC last sat in November 2024 and at no point these allegations were brought up in the ANC.
A source in the municipality said those opposed to the IPTN report are doing so because it implicates their cronies.
“Those who are opposed to IPTN reports are afraid that the report implicates their cronies and some prominent politicians in the municipality and region.”
Another source said the report Pitso is raising concerns about, was voted by ANC councillors.
“There is already a council decision on the publication of the IPTN report, a decision which was voted for even by ANC councillors.”
The municipality will host investment summit tomorrow and Thursday at the Lemo Mall.
The procurement of goods and services is already raising eyebrows as a service provider tasked with branding material is allegedly charging R120 for a branded pen.
One branded pen at a cost of R120.
