Free State Health: Pelonomi Intervention team collapses

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The intervention team sent to stabilise Pelonomi Hospital in Bochabela, Bloemfontein is falling like line of dominoes.

The first batch of the intervention team saw Tsietsi Makume, acting CEO sent packing and replaced by Mpuse Mofokeng who after just three months called it quits and returned to Bophelo House.

Mofokeng was replaced by Dr Setshego, Chief Executive Officer of National Hospital. The same hospital that caught fire last year and the department can’t repair it.

Out of the five original members of the intervention team, only two left and nothing has changed.

Positioned to cater for township patients from Phahameng, Rocklands, Batho Location, and Heidedal among others, the hospital also cater for patients from Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu.

On Saturday, Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae, Free State Premier showed up at the hospital unannounced and found the hospital in the same state she found it on her very first visit after she became the Premier.

A source with intimate knowledge said even if Mathae can go to Pelonomi everyday, that won’t change anything.

“We are doomed, and it’s going to get worse.

How can we run health department without goods & services budget ?

Budget allocations for next financial year are far less than our needs and what we have spend this financial year.

Even if Premier can set up an office here, it won’t help. We need resources not political visits.”
