Bloemfontein – The silence by Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) affectionately knows as Hawks over the alleged meeting one of their officials had with Joyce Mathae, Free State Premier is very loud.
Having sent questions to LG Godfrey Lebeya on Saturday, 12 October 2024, just a day after the said meeting, with a deadline of Monday, 14 October 2024, at 16h30, we published a story on
Wednesday without a response.
Only for Brigadier Thandi Mbambo to call and ask why questions were sent Lebeya not communications team. Lack of response from her explain why questions were sent to Lebeya.
Mbambo went further to say Lebeya was on leave however, the acting head would respond.
Mbambo who asked to use their right of reply has not done so and the questions remain unanswered.
But why would the Hawks ask for right of reply and not exercise it?
In addition to the questions we sent to Lebeya, the Hawks must take the country into confidence, be responsive and transparent unless they are hiding something.
They must reveal the minutes of that meeting.
Below are the questions sent to Lebeya, who according to Mbambo was on leave:
- It’s alleged your office called Patrick Phuti on Thursday requesting a meeting with him on Friday. Can you confirm or deny this?
- If yes, who called him?
- It’s alleged on Friday, an officer from Free State met with Joyce Mathae, was the meeting sanctioned and official?
- It’s alleged the meeting was organized by (name withheld), if this is true is that lawful and ethical?
- If it’s found to be true would action be taken by your office?
- It’s also alleged a case involving Mathae’s child was swapped under the table. Can you confirm there has never been any case opened against Mathae’s child?
- Lastly, can you confirm if the Hawks are investigating Dibolelo Mahlatsi under fraud and corruption case number P COMM FS OCIU 06/07/2024?
The questions are not about the case but the conduct of the Hawks.
