CUT cut Makume’s spin doctor into pieces

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Central University of Technology (CUT) has distanced itself from Athenkosi Maduna, a former spin doctor for Ketso Makume, MEC for Finance and Tourism over his qualifications.

This revelation came to the fore in a week when Daniel Mthimkhulu, former Chief Engineer at PRASA got sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment for misrepresenting his qualifications and ultimately committing fraud.

Mthimkhulu allegedly claimed to have a PhD from a university in Germany when in fact he had a National Diploma from Vaal University of Technology.

According to a letter in possession of this publication from CUT’s Assessment Graduation Unit Manager; Mr. Hlapo, Athenkosi Masina was registered for National Diploma Marketing from 2014-2022. That’s 8 years and he didn’t graduate.

Apart from the alleged fraud CUT is pointing out, was due diligence done by the department?

Or a person can just say I have Phd and it’s taken on face value because of cadre deployment?

The Public Service Commission ruled against appointments linked to political terms and emphasized, that much as those filling those positions will not follow the recruitment process, they need to qualify for those positions.

Case in point is Jabu Khumalo at Free State Education who with matric only was parachuted into late MEC Makgoe’s office and secretly, moved to administration.

To date, no action has been taken to implement PSC’s recommendations at Education and it’s business as usual.
