Tough month for Premier as Ralikontsane drags her to court

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Director-General of Free State Provincial Government, Kopung Ralikontsane is dragging Joyce Mathae, the Free State Premier to court.

This follows the Public Protector’s report implicating Ralikontsane and other officials.

According to court papers in possession of this publication, Ralikontsane is reviewing the PP report with PP and Dr Roy Jenkielsen of the Democratic Alliance as second and third respondents.

papers were served the 17 August 2024.

Represented by Iko Bokwa of Bokwa Law Incorporated, Ralikontsane in part A is praying the court to interdict Mathae from implementing remedial actions while in part B, he is praying the court to set aside the public protector’s report.

  • Firstly, the public protector’s report is irrational because, in her findings, the R5.9 million is unreasonable and could not have been the intention of the policy without stating “reasonable” in the circumstances,
  • The public protector fails to explain the yardstick she used to measure the funeral of Mr Makgoe and Mr Mdi,
  • The public protector fails to mention the items unreasonable, unnecessary, and excessive in the funeral of Makgoe and Mdi

Ralikontsane also accuses the Public Protector of failing to afford him an interview which would have allowed him to clarify whatever she needed.

In another interesting twist, STEPUPSANEWS has it on good authority that employees implicated in the public protector’s report have successfully interdicted Mathae on Tuesday after she tried to use the PP report to move them to different units.

Another tough week for Free State Premier in a month that proved to be her toughest leading up to her day in court over contempt.

We will bring you blow-by-blow analysis from Monday including exclusive interview with Ace Magashule, former Premier of Free State.

This is a developing story.
