Free State set for a new Premier

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Free State province is set to have the third premier in 18 months.

This, as the incumbent, Joyce Mathae awaits her fate after being found guilty of contempt by acting Judge Mahlangu on the 16 August 2024.

Mahlangu’s judgment is on the premises of Mathae having failed to honor, the rule nisi handed by Judge Molitsoane who ordered the reinstatement of Mosa Masemene, and that order was not adhered to.

Unfortunately for Mathae, just like in the contempt case involving Jacob Zuma, former President, the applicant is the prosecutor which means on 5 September 2024, they will be facing Masemene who in her possession will have the WhatsApp text sent to Teboho Mokoena, MEC for Human Settlement and internal memo signed by Advocate Jacob Phahlo.

Both the text and internal memo show the judgment was willing-fully disobeyed.

The interim order was not appealed and judging from the motion filed, there were a lot of factual incorrectness that were not challenged.

With sanctioning pending, the ANC is preparing for life after Mathae, two names put forward; Sibingile Besani and Ketso Makume, according to sources.

Besani is a former Provincial Secretary and now Head of the Presidency while Ketso Makume is the deputy provincial chairperson and MEC for Tourism and Finance.

Who will it be?
