Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – Hospital Chief Executive Officers continue to be targeted as Tsietsi Makume, the former acting Chief Executive Officer of Pelonomi Hospital was unceremoniously sent packing after Joyce Mathae, Free State Premier visited the hospital.

Makume has been acting as CEO at the Mangaung-based hospital for roughly 27 months with the hope of turning things around, before moving to Pelonomi he successfully led Bethlehem-based Dihlabeng Regional Hospital.

His sudden departure is nothing new in the department, Phillip Radebe was the first casual among CEOs to be transferred all thanks to pressure from the unions.

Similarly, Dr Noge, CEO of Bongani Regional Hospital in Welkom also had a target on her back after she charged a union leader for sexual harassment.

What do Radebe, Noge, and Makume have in common? Their resistance to labor unions and charging leaders.

According to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, Makume’s sin was to charge a union leader at the Bloemfontein based hospital over sexual misconduct and, invited a bullet with his name on it.

His unceremonious departure did not only affect him but his entire management team.

According to a leaked departmental letter from Pearl, the intervention team will hang on for three months.

Below are the full details of the intervention team and their positions.

They are replacing managers junior to them meaning, Makume was expected to turn things around without proper tools of trade yet Mofokeng, gets all the support.

Head of Technical: Lebogang Mdhluli deputy director replaced by a director.

Head Nurse: Mash Molefe deputy director replaced by a director.

Setlhake Litheko assistant director of Labor was supposed to be replaced by SP Senokoane who is a deputy director but that change was withdrawn.

Managerial Accountable: Kwakwa Keane – Deputy Director replaced by Director.

Makume is not only the casualty as Advocate Thebe, who was responsible for INFRASTRUCTURE has been shipped out to COGTA.
