Bloemfontein – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(DPCI) known as the Hawks in Free State is investigating the public funds that a service provider refused to account for.
This relates to the expose we ran in 2021 over the missing R2.3 million.
According to leaked minutes of the audit committee, Khula Foundation refused to account as she claimed, the departmental staff gave her a list for EPWP and it turned out, the list was unofficial.
The department then instituted internal investigations and reported the matter to Hawks.
While the Hawks, opted not to confirm nor deny any investigation into the missing millions, we can confirm they are indeed investigating the matter.
Our investigations reveal Captain Lesia from the Hawks is in charge.
A source at SAPS who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the investigation.
“The investigation is at the advanced stage and arrests will be made soon.
There is prima facie evidence.”
It’s not clear why this matter took so long as even STEPUPSANEWS without resources, could have concluded this a month after it was reported.
Khula Foundation must just provide that unofficial list and the beneficiaries contacted and they will reveal who included them in the list. It’s not that deep.
The irony of this is the project was themed Isibindi and the officials had the liver to steal from it.
Christopher Songo, spokesperson for Hawks didn’t respond to our questions despite committing to revert.
