False start: Premier forced to postpone media briefing

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The highly anticipated first media briefing of the newly elected Premier of Free State, Maquuen Mathae was postponed indefinitely allegedly after disruption.

Mathae who toppled the erstwhile Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana after elections, was scheduled to address the media last night but postponed, in what insiders say it’s due to a ‘power struggle’ between Luthuli House and Kaizer Sebothelo in what seems to be the race for who will succeed Cyril Ramaphosa at the ANC’s next elective conference.

According to sources with intimate knowledge, the Kaizer Sebothelo-led leadership is frustrated by Luthuli House and view their involvement in Free State affairs as interference while others say, Fikile Mbalula is giving direction as Secretary General.

The presser was postponed indefinitely minutes before the scheduled time.

HOUSE IN VOLKS ROAD AND ANC FUNDING

As previously reported, the house built in six months has been identified, a contractor still on the site and an employee of the Heidedal-based construction company was spotted when a team took pictures.

We have sent questions to Premier, MaQueen Mathae, Jabu Mbalula, spokesperson for the ANC about the house in question; how much the ANC raised for its campaign, and from who.

This is a developing story.
