Bloemfontein – Hardly thirteen days after extending the suspension of Limakatso Mahasa, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, the outgoing Premier of Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana was located by karma.
This after the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) opted to overlook and not retain Dukwana as premier-elect, instead going for Community Safety, Roads and Transport MEC, Maquuen Mathae.
Mathae is likely to be sworn in today.
Her profile on the department’s website is all about political activism, and the work she did at social development and the Department of Basic Education however there is nothing about her primary, secondary, or even tertiary if she did go to tertiary, not that it would make any difference.
There is one piece of her struggle that is missing in the profile but it’s a story for another day.
Her legacy at Community Safety, Police and Roads:
- suspension, transfer and expulsion of employees
- meeting and threatening contractors with termination if they don’t plough back
- lying to legislature unprovoked
- her HoD getting threats because of her (as seen in text)
- meeting with HoD, cfo and deputy director to discuss tenders
Mathae is reportedly appointing her former colleague at Basic Education as MEC of Education with Jabu Mbalula heading to Health.
Dukwana’s tenure as Premier is nothing short of questionable leadership.
His signature was allegedly forged, he did nothing, about five MECs, and their HoDs were at loggerheads publicly, he did nothing, he extended the contract of Kopung Ralikontsane against the ANC position, he failed to reign in SACR HoD, Steve Tshabalala over the failed event he was directly involved.
More sadly, he suspended Limakatso Mahasa, fourteen days before the national elections.
Mahasa was suspended after requesting reports including Premier’s Cup from Tshabalala and a copy in possession of this publication paints a clear picture of why Mahasa had to go.
Below is what is contained in the Premier Cup report:

It’s not clear what is it that these companies did but the procurement process Mahasa asked about was flawed as invoices were split the same way Free State Education split invoices in the R10 million women’s day bonanza.
In other news Mangaung Unite has left for Upington where they will compete with other provinces for a place in the Motsepe Foundation League, the two finalists will qualify, and should Mangaung Unite qualify, the Free State will have a team after the demise of Free State Stars.

With the provincial government having spent so much money on the Nedbank Cup, Premier’s Cup, and lately Bafana Bafana match, one would have expected financial support for Mangaung but dololo.
Not a cent nor congratulatory or good luck message.
The Siyanqoba Rally lobbying paid off.
That expensive table has delivered!
