Bloemfontein – The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation (SACR) has allegedly sponsored the FIFA World Cup match between Bafana Bafana and Zim Warriors playing tonight at Free State Rugby Stadium with a whopping R2 million.
At this stage, it’s not clear if any procurement process was followed and why would the department sponsor a national team that has sponsors while grassroots sports continue to suffer.
The match which is the first feature of the national team since the 2010 FIFA World Cup group stage match against France comes at the time the department and Provincial Government face scrutiny over a failed event in which the MEC Limakatso Mahasa got suspended after asking for a detailed report from Head of Department, Steve Tshabalala.
WhatsApp texts between Mahasa and Tshabalala show how complicit Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana was as far as where the event was to be held despite Mahasa asking it to be held at Thabo Mofutsanyane.
WATCH:
STEPUPSANEWS has learned while there is material evident in pictures, videos, letters, and audio of the meeting between Premier, suspended MEC Mahasa, and Tshabalala regarding the same failed event, there is a plan to declare the event didn’t happen at all and the service providers will not be paid to circumvent Auditor General’s likely finding of fruitless expenditure and material irregularity.
But, they will allegedly get other jobs where they will likely inflate their rates to cover their losses.
Be that as it may, how different is that from the predetermining future tenders and collusion?
The department is not a stranger to procurement shenanigans, the entire tender document file for statues was stolen to this day, and no one knows what happened to the file.
This happened in 2019 but has this been reported to SAPS and who was the MEC then?
Just like we did with SAICA in their investigations into the Treasury head, we will provide the HAWKS and AGSA with all evidence related to the Thaba Nchu event that happened and the department can prove it didn’t.
If Sonaqua does not invoice then it will prove there was a collusion and AG may not find any transactions but HAWKS may.
The Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana abd Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor, Greg Nthatisi welcomed Bafana Bafana on Sunday at Bram Fisher International airport on Saturday and with Nigeria’s Super Eagles losing to their neighbours, Benin last night, Bafana stand a great chance of advancing provided they win their matches.
