DA and EFF blast Health MEC for violating public service code

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The MEC of Health in Free State, Mathabo Leeto is accused of violating the public service code of conduct.

This after Leeto, who doubles up as Provincial Treasurer of the African National Congress appeared in a video dancing, wearing an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) uniform and ANC cap.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Free State, Health spokesperson, Mariette Pittaway said the ANC has run out of political capital.

“The ANC has run out of political capital and is now using state resources for its campaign.

The use of state resources for political party campaigning is strictly prohibited by South Africa’s electoral and public service regulations.

By using state resources, allocated to health care, for their campaign, the ANC proves why it fails to deliver reliable health care services to our citizens”

Economic Freedom Fighters, Couch Liphoko said this is madness.

“This is a sign of desperation, this is madness. It’s also an indication that the ANC does not understand the separation of power between political party work and public service.

Once you get deployed into government, you represent everyone and can’t be seen as biased.

The MEC must be taken up, the HPCSA must get involved.”

Not to be outdone by Leeto, MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Dibolelo Mahlatsi thought covering Public Works branded clothing with ANC regalia is a good thing.

According to the code of conduct, and public service regulations, of 2016, this is prohibited.

-C2.7 An employee shall not abuse his or her position in public service to promote or prejudice the interest of any political party or interest group.
