Bloemfontein – The precautionary transfer of Kgomotso Phahladira, the Chief Executive Officer of Fezi Ngubentombi Hospital has raised serious questions over the influence of trade unions in the department and the ruling party.
Phahladira is at least the third hospital CEO targeted after the sudden transfer of Phillip Radebe of Phekolong Hospital in Bethlehem and Dr Noge who has been on and off with the department after she was allegedly charged for a case that was dismissed two years ago.
The above three CEOs have one thing in common, they refused to toe the line for trade unions.
In Bethlehem, Radebe refused to bow down to NEHAWU’s demands of having 8 shop stewards despite having 70 members.
According to the response from the department, the union deserved the 2 and Radebe was right but he was eventually pushed out after the department had said there were no plans to transfer him.
Dr Noge’s sin was according to insiders her decision to protect women and charge a union leader for alleged sexual assault and the DC found the alleged perpetrator guilty and subsequently recommended dismissal.
Step UP has it on good authority after Kgomotso Phahladira who is awaiting an investigation into frivolous complaints Dr. Ariel Torres will be the next victim and one by one they shall fall.
Dr. Torres is the CEO of Botshabelo District Hospital, one of the only two hospitals in the province to get a compliance certificate from the Office of Health Standards Compliance, the other being Phekolong whose CEO, Phillip Radebe was transferred.
The National Ministry of Health referred us to the Free State Provincial Government when we asked about the shenanigans at FS Health.
It was the Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana who told MEC Leeto to focus on the hospital CEOs during International Nurses Day, and indeed the CEOs are targeted in what many say is to pave ways to loot state funds for campaigning.
In other news, the department has allegedly appointed a Limpopo company to digitize patients’ files but a simple Google search shows that the company was awarded a similar tender estimated at R1 billion with a criminal case also laid against the company over the same tender.
Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for Free State didn’t respond to our questions. Its also worth mentioning the department has taken a stance not to respond to our inquiries.
When we reported great work at various hospitals, the department did respond to our inquiries.
