Parys water crises: NGO steps in

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The water crisis in Parys that saw a house belonging to the parents of Victoria De Beer, Executive Mayor of Ngwathe Local Municipality, is a serious indictment on the ruling party, African National Congress, wheels are coming off rapidly.

The community of Tumahole has been struggling with water under the leadership of the ANC for 17 years, before we blame apartheid which ended in 1990.

In January, angry protestors burnt down the house belonging to the parents of the Executive Mayor though, it was alleged the motive was related to the ANC provincial conference as she belonged to the other faction, to date no one has been arrested.

Following the blaze, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, COGTA, and SALGA, all flooded Parys with promises that the water issue was being attended to, but nothing changed.

Rise ‘n Shine Community Foundation led by Fani Tekane has been at the forefront of using its resources to provide water using Jojo tanks daily and whenever they are late, they apologize.

This is what Maluti-A-Phofung residents have been experiencing all along and there seems to be no solution.

Where is the municipality? Where is COGTA? Where is SALGA? Lastly, where is Water and Sanitation?

During the 2019 manifesto review Maquuen Mathae, Treasurer General of ANC WL said they will embark on molo makhelwane campaign in Parys and imagine if they embarked on ensuring the community has water. This is the same person who told contractors their contracts will be terminated if they don’t plow back.

While on manifesto review we have it on good authority that service providers doing business with government paid other service providers on behalf of ANC.

Is this not the same thing that Ace Magashule is criminally charged for?

Hawks and NPA are sleeping on duty or maybe they only prosecute selectively.
