Bloemfontein – The 2023 edition of June 16 celebrations scheduled for Dr Rantlai Molemela stadium in Rocklands, Mangaung is going the same way as Macufe 2022.
With just a few days before the activities start, no service providers have been appointed according to sources privy to the situation and the bid specifications require service providers to provide 50 stalls in the exhibition marquee and 50 in an existing venue on 15th June after 14h00, this means that this must happen tomorrow yet at the time of publishing, the appointments have not been made.
What is interesting is that the yet-to-be-appointed service provider is expected to provide for
- all covid-19 compliance matters and the venue will be used from 13 June – 17 June 2023 by 20 officials
It is only fair to assume that there will be no covid-19 compliance as the sanitizers will not be provided because the service providers have not been appointed.
Among other things that will be required are:
- Water drums for extra marquees which should be up on the 15 June
- 4500 chairs
- Scanners
- 5000 seater framed marquee
- furniture
- catering for 5300 people
Sources say the budget for the event is R6 million and what should concern citizens is the tender closed on the 9th of June 2023, last Friday, and to expect all due processes to be concluded in less than a week demonstrates that the department has learned nothing from Macufe saga where 8 months later the matter is still before the courts and looks very unlikely to be concluded anytime soon.
This is a developing story.
