Bloemfontein – The Mangaung Metropolitan Police Department personnel has taken their fight with the troubled municipality to the labor court in Johannesburg.
This follows a one-line judgment by Judge Islen Van Rhyn dismissing leave to appeal with costs in an application brought by the municipality against Patrick Monyakoane and one hundred and forty-four others.
Handing down judgment Judge Van Rhyn said.
“The application for leave to appeal is dismissed with costs.”
Much to the relief of Metro Police employees who were told to stay home just 6 days into the job.
Excited personnel who asked to remain anonymous said their trouble started when Sello More called them into a meeting, 6 days after starting their jobs.
“The first intake was in 2020 and trainees were sent to Pretoria, a year later Human Resources advertised positions and we applied.
We got our appointment letters with 1 October 2021 as the start date.
6 days into the job we were called into a meeting by one Sello More who told us there was a problem with our appointment letters and we must go home till the problem has been attended to.
Others stayed home for two months while others more than that.”
Asked what followed next he said.
“Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality went to court seeking an order that will nullify our appointment and when that failed they appealed and they failed again.
Now that the court has dismissed their leave to appeal we have already mentioned the labor court for enforcement.”
