Bloemfontein – The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure which is tasked with government buildings particularly public infrastructure as well as providing accommodation and property management services to all the other MECs in the Free State is the first department our team paid a visit to monitor and evaluate any work under construction.

This follows our commitment to hold powers that be accountable.
Arthur Ramakayane, the acting chief director explains the role of Public Works in the bigger scheme of things.

Our first stop was at Thusanong Building where we found MSK Construction contractors hard at work refurbishing, the value of the contract is R85 million.

Our next stop was Tshirelotsong in Bochabela.

Tshireletsong used to serve as a center for naughty kids but has been turned into an orphanage.

Projects as big as this can’t go without challenges, Arthur Ramakayane, talks about challenges and interventions.

The department has allocated R1.751 billion for 2023/24, R2.097 billion and R2.290 for 2024/25 & 2024/26 respectively.
Up next we shall visit Human Settlement to monitor how many houses were built last year followed by Health, Education, Social Development and Potholders, Police, Roads, and Traffic.
