Staff reporter

Maseru – Two suspects are in police custody following the untimely death of the wife of Tsikoane Member of Parliament (MP); Malefane Mabote.
Mabote won the 7th October elections under Prime Minister Sam Matekane’s Revolution For Prosperity (RFP).

Deputy Police spokesperson Inspector ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka confirmed the unfortunate incident to this publication last night.
She said around 9- 10 pm on Friday, an unknown gunman knocked at the MP’s home in Tsikoane Moreneng asking for the whereabouts of the deceased.

And her 15- year- old daughter went back into the house to look for her. But unfortunately, when the deceased was at the passage to attend to her visitor, she was sprayed with a hail of bullets. She died right on the spot.

Insp Mofoka said the suspect then fled the scene traveling with a 4+1. The spokesperson reported that at the time, the police were informed together with the community.

According to Insp Mofoka the gunman disembarked the car and disappeared in the darkness while the driver of the car and MP’s concubine were picked up by the police.
At the time of going to the print, they were still in police custody pending further investigations.

“A source of the killing has not been established at this stage,” Inspector Mofoka said, adding that their investigations are continuing.

The deceased, 30, was working at Motebang Hospital as a nurse while the MP’s alleged concubine, 32, works as a lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL). It is believed that the MP’s concubine is the one who hired the hitman.

Police said they have not apprehended the MP because so far, there is nothing that links him with the killing.

The death of the MP’s wife has left the Tsikoane community and the nation at large in great shock and anguish.
