While South Africa woke up to protests in other parts of the country including Phoenix, Johannesburg, and Kroonstad to mention a few over load shedding, it was Parys, named after the capital city of France that took center stage after the house belonging to the parents of Ngwathe Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Victoria Deer burnt.
What started as a community protest over water shedding due to excessive load shedding turned into anarchy.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity indicated that the protest was sponsored and the mayor was targeted in what is known as factional wars in the ANC.
“We know Victoria has always been a target by that other faction since she became a Mayor and their efforts failed now this.”
Another source said the water crises in Parys is nothing new.
“We have had water problems over 10 years and at no point has any house been burnt.
In some instances when water is available it would be undrinkable and dirty. To drink it we had to clean it, yes clean water to use it.”
What the Step UP team discovered to be strange indirectly supports the notion that this could have been a sponsored protest it’s alleged no memorandum was handed and, protestors went to the water plant and from there they went straight to the house belonging to the parents of the Mayor.
According to the source, the mayor was alerted that protestors were going to her parent’s house.
‘We did alert the Mayor and she managed to call her brother and mother before protestors got there and no one was injured.”
Last year during the July unrest security cluster was exposed as they should have known in advance and the same goes for SAPS in Free State and Parys in particular.
According to unconfirmed reports, the police were alerted and they said they can’t do anything till the public order police arrived.
With what’s happening in Free State politically the province is slowly turning into Kwazulu Natal with political killings and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
What is very funny is all these media statements from SALGA, COGTA MEC and IPC chairman, Mxolisi Dukwana, and ANC about something they could have solved. They will be lying if they say they did not know of the water crises in Fezile Dabi. Qwaqwa has been without water for over 17 years and they know this and doing nothing.
Who benefits from these Jojo trucks?
SAPS and Victoria De Beer could not be reached for their comments.
