Mangaung Metro demands reinstatement of the axed-acting CFO

The much anticipated special council meeting of Mangaung Metro started with Mxolizi Siyonzana, Executive Mayor welcoming the minister and asking Steph Lockman-Naidoo to allow the counselors to deal with the intervention matters which Speaker agreed to.

In his opening remarks Enock Godongwana, Finance Minister said it is not his intention to be in Mangaung Metro forever and explained how the intervention works.

“When I addressed you last time, I informed you it’s not our intention to be in Mangaung forever. Because national intervention is not ideal, especially for Metros, they should be able to raise revenue and employ qualified staff.

National comes at the tail end of the process, what is the tail end? The province must start and when they fail they must ask the National when they have failed. It has to be as short as possible but it requires corporation.

Over the last few months, progress has been made.”

Godongwana then handed over to Jan Hatting who introduced Gugu Malaza, Mxolisi Nkosi, and Lutanyana Dlenge.

It was Papie Mokoena, former Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro who peeled the onion.

“My take on the presentation that has been made honorable speaker, I would want to assume we are all on the same page about our intention to change the lives of the people of Mangaung, I want to get one out of the way I like what Mr. Hatting has said that they made their vetting and they are bringing people who are fit and proper, I would appreciate a resume of Me Malaza and Ntate Nkosi for the simple reason that there are things said about them.

We all agreed there is a huge gap of trust.”

From there it went south as Van Der Venter, Patrick Monyakoane, Jankie Sebolao, Rampai, and others rejected and raised dissatisfaction with the presentation of replacements over allegations over their heads.

The councilors alleged the axing of the former acting CFO, Timothy Sediti was purely due to the missing R100 million he alerted the council about and they unanimously agreed he be brought back.

Other than that the councilors’ concern about the service delivery was brought to life by Wessels Pretorius who told the minister that some parts of Mangaung had been without water for weeks and all contractors have been terminated.
