With time ticking and questions around the likelihood or unlikelihood of the much anticipated Free State ANC Provincial conference with the cutoff date from Paul Mashatile, acting Deputy Secretary General having lapsed on 3rd September 2022, pressure is mounting on who will lead the CR22 camaign in the Province.
As previously reported in Blood and Water article, no less than three factions are aiming for a clean sweep with RET A led by Sam Mashinini and RET B led by Thabo Manyoni who was the first one to raise his hand, the CR22 team is believed to have abandoned Mxolisi Dukwana, IPC convenor and MEC for both Human Settlement and COGTA and now pushing for Seiso Mohai to be the face.
According to sources, Dukwana has lost faith from both his supporters and national leadership following the alleged isolation of his base and fence-sitting approach.
Another source said even during the National Policy Conference the position of the province was led by Saki Mofokeng.
“Comrade Dukwana is a liability to president Ramaphosa’s campaign and he is losing support daily. He failed to lead the province in the Policy Conference especially around Step Aside and had it not been for comrade Saki we would not have had a view.
As a convenor, he is responsible for the mess happening in the province and he allowed Paseka Nompondo to control resources, a conference is won by resources.”
Another source said the conference is likely to be stolen.
They are going to steal the conference and it will not be the first time. Branches will be manipulated and the conference will go ahead and there will be a court case after will three years to set it aside and it will be too little too late.”
Asked who should lead the CR22 against Manyoni and Mashinini he said.
“We are pursuing comrade Seiso Mohai and we believe he is one of the principled comrades and his deputy will be Dukwana or Toto Makume”
Mohai’s political background is as follows:
1991 – 1994: Southern Free State ANCYL Chairperson
1996 – 1998: Free State ANCYL Chairperson
1998 – 2001: ANCYL NEC
2001 – 2013: FS PEC Ex Officio Member
2014 – 2019: Chairperson of the ANC Caucus in Parliament
He has
MSc Degree: Technology and Management (Davincy)
Postgraduate Diploma in Management of Technology and Innovation (Davincy)
