STEP UP SA NEWS TURNS A YEAR OLD

“Celebrate what you’ve accomplished, but raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed.” Mia Hamm

This quote is directed to everyone who has been involved directly or indirectly in the formation and publication of this digital platform from reporters, and readers who share our articles, we appreciate you and your support as we celebrate 1 year of Step UP.

To the core and the most important people in Step UP, our sources, without you we would not even have stories. Your bravery and steadfastness in exposing the rod do not go unnoticed.

Having published 155 articles with the first article on 14 June 2021 without fear, favor, and prejudice, no resources, and funding, we deserve a toast.

The past 12 months have not been easy due to the nature of the stories we strategically choose to cover and threats came thick and fast but we remained focused.

The whole thing started when received letters from lawyers threatening court actions, our response always said bring it on only to disappear, we had State Security Agency unleashed on us again we said bring it on, and we still waiting. Of late we got death threats and our website got hacked but we did not surrender. The matter has been reported to the Hawks.

We know investigative journalism is dangerous but death threats from a democratic government? Even the apartheid did not stoop this low.

As we embark on a new chapter we shall remain focused, and undeterred, and with more and more people coming forward with information of malfeasance we are left with no choice but to diversify our digital with print which will be communicated in due course.

We also looking for funding in any form be it financially or resources such as computers, office furniture, and cars. Funders will not have a say in our editorial.

At Step Up SA News, we inherently believe in the Freedom of the media as is the fundamental right of the various media—including print, radio, television, and online media. The media should operate freely in society without government control, restriction, or censorship.
