Free State Youth to disrupt Premier’s youth awards while Muslims in Mangaung embark on a cleaning campaign

The South African Youth Council in Free State has shown the Premier’s Top 50 Most Inspirational Youth 2022 awards the middle finger and threatened to disrupt the awards billed for 28 June 2022 if their demands are not met.

This followed the announcement by Free State Provincial Government on its Facebook page on Monday that was shared 49 times.

The comment section was flooded with anger from netizens with two graduates bashing the FSPG.

Thapelo Tsinyane:
Does it recognize youth Free staters that you sent to Russia to study, I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS STATEMENT. they graduated last year June, but up to this day, they are still unemployed? We went to lift that flag in another country, we strived for the best but you didn’t recognize us, what’s special or different this time?…. This will only benefit your image…..ur only doing this for your so-called political friends and image that’s all.

The very same government that’s killing the youth…. 7 years of my life in Russia studying only for me to come back home and sit on my degree with no job, no recognition, and no one to take responsibility….it’s been a year now of lies on top of lies from people in high chairs, of course, they don’t care of another child’s black child….we’ve been patient for one full year of unemployment no income or anything planned for us, what we thought was our meal tickets turned out to be a way to poverty….The GOVERNMENT is killing youth!!!!

This Premier is an expert on how to exploit youth for her PR campaigns. It’s youth month and she’s trying to fool everyone that she’s into youth development. The problems that youth are facing in this province, with this lady at the helm are just unbelievable. She lacks the vision to comprehend that the problems of this province start and end with the youth.

Everyone has critics but the number of youth I have seen complaining about her, surely cannot be a coincidence. I’m disappointed in the media that they haven’t provided an alternative perspective or constantly given a voice to ordinary youth in the streets of the Free State (Not her favorites, that always seem to be invited to her PR campaigns).

She has plenty of tools at her disposal to push her agenda and suppress the youth through her embellished campaigns and programs.

This event should be canceled and its funds directed to a public tour in which she and her departments visit all the districts in the province. During their visit to a particular district, they invite all the youth of that district, they listen to their problems and innovations that could help the province, and they publicly note them.

After that, she creates a task team that will deal with those problems and innovations daily. Enough of using tax payer’s money for her PR campaigns, she can ask the ANC for that.

This sentiment was supported by SAYC blasting the FSPG demanding the awards be canceled and the money be redirected to programs that will help the youth.

In a statement released by Edgar Legoale, the Provincial Convener the youth council did not mince its words.

“South African Youth Council as an umbrella body of all the youth organizations in the province, finds this program as an insult to the young people in the province.

In the midst of the high rate of unemployment in the province we are busy wasting money with such programs, it’s a total NO!

The continuous failure or delay by the Office of the Premier to appoint the Youth Advisory Committee produces these kinds of senseless results! We also feel the Office is undermining the recognized structure SAYC, failure to invite us into the planning of Youth Programmes for this month was an insult and it should stop!

We don’t know who in his or her right mind approved such a program, we have challenges as young people in the province for the Premier to waste money on such programs which we believe if it was “at least” internal would be making sense as we believe the appointed District Coordinators can manage to do that program as they get paid to come up with such initiatives and already are working in the Office of the Premier.

In the tabled Programmes of this month, there was nowhere this program was mentioned by Mrs. Mbalo who is the Youth Advisor in the Office of the Premier.”

Asked if there has been any progress since their protest, Thamsanqa Milela, spokesperson for the SAYC said.

“Our provincial convener was conducted and told that the Premier will check her schedule and come back to us for a meeting.

However, we have managed to meet our members and concluded that, should the Premier continue with this program, we are going to mobilize all our members on the day and disrupt this program.
We are resolute on that one!”

In other news, the Muslim Community in Mangaung will celebrate Youth Day by cleaning Jamaat Khana near the old market and its surrounding areas.

Mangaung Metro is currently facing a filth pandemic and instead of complaining and pointing fingers, the community will getting their hands dirty. The cleaning campaign will start at 10H45, and volunteers are welcomed and asked to bring a pair of gloves and refuse bags.

“And as Muslims, we all know cleanliness is a part of our deen.

Let’s all stand up as Muslims and clean the near surroundings near our Masjid and let’s try to keep our Masjid clean.”
