A year after the 14-year-old boy from Heidedal was killed by a security guard during #MangaungShutdown promises by Sefora Ntombela, Free State Premier have not been delivered, and the Mangaung Metro is far worse than it was last year with the national government now in charge.
On 17 May 2021, Mangaung came to a standstill with protestors closing roads with rocks and burning tyres, every entry point was closed in the townships and it was business as usual in town, especially suburbs such as Fauna, Pellisier, and Langehoven Park.
Step UP SA News team spoke to residents in Rocklands who complained about unemployment and ever under-construction Moshoeshoe Road.
Key among what the protestors complained about is lack of basic services, corruption, nepotism, potholes, taxi rank, crime, etc.
WATCH:
Things got heated in Laurie Park, where the team found a cartridge of live ammunition allegedly fired by police.
WATCH:
It was in hostel number one on Dr. Belcher road where protestors from different areas gathered and as the crowd moved towards town the police fired teargas to disperse the crowd only for Jevano Liam Siagal to be shot by a security guard who according to sources tried to scare the crowd only to kill the young boy just a few meters away from the Step UP SA News crew.
Speaking exclusively to Step Up SA News a few minutes after the death of his son the emotional Siegal said.
“I was called by neighbors that my son was shot and I could not believe it as las time i saw him he was playing outside.”
WATCH:
Sefora Ntombela, Free State Premier visited the family and as always, made promises via the spokesperson in a statement.
“The (provincial government) remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that service delivery issues in Mangaung, raised by the community, are attended to expeditiously.”
They did exactly what they did after Andries Tatane was killed making very pregnant promises but delivering nothing.
May the souls of those who died fighting for a better life for all as promised by the ANC rest in peace.
Unfortunately, their leaders are soulless and their deaths mean nothing to those meant to protect them.
