If you think the manhandling of Mzwandile Masina, former Executive Mayor of Ekhurhuleni is an isolated incident, then think again, Mangaung Metro is turning into Russia versus Ukraine.
Last month, Mapaseka Nkoane, deputy Executive Mayor allegedly assaulted Motshewa Tladi, MMC for Social Services.
Step UP SA News received two videos of Mzi Nkungwana, acting City Manager being violently and forcefully removed from municipal offices.
WATCH:
This followed a letter in possession of this publication dated 14 April 2022, in which Nkungwana was requested to return all municipality assets.
“We confirm that during December 2021, you received a letter from my office informing you that your employment contract with the municipality as the head of directorate social services was terminating on the 31 March 2022
We further confirm that even though the expiring of your employment with the municipality as the head of the directorate social services was brought to the attention of the council, it was resolved that you be appointed as the City Manager subject to the ratification of MEC of COGTA. The MEC did not give concurrence beyond 31st March 2022.”
In a separate letter addressed to Commissioner Kgamanyane signed by Siyonzana the instruction was.
“You are requested to assist to comply with the content of the letter written to him on 14th April 2022.
We hope you will deliver the request with honor.”
Fast forward to 19th April 2022 Nkungwana was stopped from entering Mangaung offices and can be seen struggling to breathe as he can be heard asking for his pump. It’s not clear what pump he was asking for.
Much as his contract expired but common sense has to prevail but like Thabo Kofa used to say “Common sense is not always common” the matter is still sub judice and till then Mangaung Mayor can’t do anything.
The available option is for the council to convene and withdraw the appointment on Nkungwana.
We need to ask ourselves why are guns and knives out to get Nkungwana out at all costs, who stands to benefit?
Where are the Premier and MEC of COGTA in the bigger scheme of things?
Just a few days ago the Metro was placed under administration with the national government scheduled to table an action plan today.
Minister Nkosanaza Dlamini-Zuma will today table the intervention plan.
Ha e a lala, ea kupa.
