Cutting Edge News, Real Stories From South Africa

Mangaung ghosts workers can’t even clean the graveyard

Following our article published on Monday, 7thMarch 2022, titled Is Mangaung ‘capital city of potholes’? that showed potholes and rubbish dumped illegally next to a primary school in Freedom Square, more shocking news has come to our attention.

Following complaints about the state of graveyards in Mangaung, Step Up SA News took a trip to South Park cemetery to physically see if indeed the complaints are justifiable and have merit.

The grass in South Park cemetery further shows how Mangaung Metro is uninterested in doing anything service delivery related.

In February 2022, Unathi Henama shared a Facebook post airing his frustrations and his friends flooded the comment sections.

Motsamai Malefane: “Our own black government doesn’t care. Where are the people that used to clean parks?”

Boitumelo Itholeng: Go see Magengene, far worse.

Thapelo Molefi: Mangaung was better as a local municipality this Metro one e tlhotse and we have become used to these unpleasant conditions. On the other hand I think we deserve it. Maybe when a dog walks around with a human bone we will wake up. For now we deserve.

For a Metro that the ANC won with outright majority this is shocking and even coalition municipalities are doing way better.

In the City of Joburg Dr Mpho Phalatse has taken the bull by the horn ensuring Joburg is clean, fixed term contracts that were converted to permanent have been reversed.

Last month Phalatse led the charge against complacency and disconnecting services to hundreds of millions in unpaid municipal bills from defaulting entities and businesses.

In Mangaung, Centlec switched off power at 5 government buildings last week following R230 million in unpaid municipal bills with only for R90 million having been committed to be paid by Free State provincial Government and prepayment plan.

In all these the Executive Mayor is nowhere to be seen great for batho pele.

Mxolisi Siyonzana, Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor didn’t respond to our questions at the time of publishing the story.

This is a developing story.
